Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

The win also indicates he has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a third set.

He defended four early break points in a close third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
